Reed-Solomon

Reed-Solomon is a set of 'forward error correction' codes invented by Irving Reed and Gustave Solomon in 1960 at MIT labs. Reed-Solomon is used in several technologies including data storage on CD-ROMs and DVDs, Digital Broadcast Television and broadband modems (ADSL). The primary mechanism used by Reed-Solomon is to add redundant information to the original data to allow detection, and correction of errors from the encoded data.
