The Finder is the desktop environment. It manages the active programs and the Finder Menu on the left side of the desktop allows the user to switch between active applications. Here is a closer look at the finder menu.

The finder does three things: 1) it gives you a list of the active programs 2) Allow the user to switch between active programs 3) allows the user to hide some or all of the applications.
